Bookish Fam,
We are ending October on a HIGH NOTE!
Fun Fact: I have a master's of social work in community organizing, planning and program development from Silberman School of Social Work.
For most of the first decade of my professional career, I worked as a grassroots community organizer with social work students, survivors of domestic violence, survivors of military sexual trauma (mst), commercially sexually exploited children (csec) aka sex trafficked children and
black womxn survivors of all trauma.
As you can see, I've always been drawn to working in community with
womxn and girls for our individual and collective healing and liberation.
As my life has changed, my activism has changed.
And to be honest, I've mourned the loss of that aspect of my life.
Specifically, the sense of community and the strength
I found in being part of something larger than myself.
I'm 44 years old now, a mom and a bookseller.
To be able to continue the work, at this particular phase in my life,
is truly an honor. I am constantly reminded that my core values will always play out despite how dramatically my life may change.
If you're feeling hopeless, stuck or unsure where to begin,
the final two events of October is perfect for you.
I hope that you'll join us!
always,
-kqd.
